Central display

Displays used in the cockpit must meet stringent quality standards in terms of optical performance. The display solutions from Bosch offer very high resolutions (HD) combined with impressive contrast and vibrant colors. Optical bonding furthermore reduces display reflections by a factor of four, ensuring perfect readability in every situation.

Besides these aspects that have more to do with the optical characteristics, the safety of the technology used is of primary importance. Unlike the screens we use in our homes, the displays designed for the automotive environment must be able to handle exceptional stresses. Temperatures from minus 40 to plus 120 degrees Celsius and extreme shocks place special demands on automotive displays. What is more, vehicle occupant protection and passenger safety have utmost priority. Specially hardened glass or plastics must therefore be used that will not shatter, for example, in the event of a head impact. The displays are thoroughly tested for this in head impact tests before they are approved for automotive use.

To help prevent a collision from even happening in the first place, Bosch uses state-of-the-art interaction technologies that keep driver distraction as low as possible. Besides touchscreens with haptic feedback, the infotainment system and other functions can also be controlled with gestures or eye movement.

Passenger display

The Bosch display portfolio also includes passenger displays, so all the vehicle’s occupants can enjoy a more personalized entertainment experience. Watching a 3D movie, searching for the nearest hotel, or checking the appointments in your calendar are all no problem at all thanks to the passenger display.

For carmakers, the more expansive screen area offered by these displays opens up new opportunities for offering additional features, apps, and services. The passenger display thus becomes an enabler technology for providing functions on demand, and it opens up prospects for future, viable monetization models.

To give the front-seat passenger access to the full range of features and functions during the journey, Bosch has developed a special switchable privacy function. It ensures moving images are visible to the front passenger only, while the content remains invisible to the driver. This reduces distraction and increases driving safety.
