Central Gateway (CGW) for commercial vehicles

The Gateway centralizes control functions within vehicles. The current three main drivers electrification, automated driving, and the connected vehicle lead to a fast growing number of cross domain functions. As a result, high data exchange between all domains within a vehicle and also data exchange between different vehicles has to be guaranteed.The Gateway is the central communication node within all these different domains in a vehicle and also the gate (through the CCU) to the outside. That leads to a higher software complexity, hence to higher security requirements. The Gateway enables software updates during a vehicle lifetime.

Gateways are built into vehicles by manufacturers.

All modern commercial vehicles do have the Gateway functionality. It is always needed if data has to be exchanged between more than one bus. In older vehicles, the Gateway functionality is integrated in an ECU (e.g. to the Body computer).

The functionality for Gateways is the same. Gateways are exchanging data between several buses. The data itself is different between e-vehicle and combustion engine vehicle, (e.g. e-vehicle state of battery has to be communicated within vehicles).
